Now anyone can afford to buy a Ferrari.
Well, not exactly.
But for the equivalent of about $1,500, you can buy an electric-powered bicycle that’s been designed by the same guys who design Italian sports cars like the Ferrari.
The French-built Velo Solex has been redesigned some 60 years after it was first introduced. Originally powered by a small gasoline engine, the bike has gone green (though not literally), powered by a lithium-ion battery.
According to web site for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), the self-described world’s only “carbon neutral motoring organization,” this electric bicycle can get up to 25 miles on a charge and has a top speed of just over 20 miles per hour.
ETA is optimistic that the E-solex, as it’s called, will prove popular, a spokesperson saying on the web site, “More than any other affordable electric scooter on the market, the e-Solex has style – a feature that is vital if this type of vehicle is to have mass appeal.”
